Volunteer with Us
Eastside Villagers believe in giving back—in ”paying it forward”—by helping others when we can, and receiving help when we need it. We rely on, and are grateful for, our volunteers!
Our caring and capable volunteers are Village members, students, retirees, and many others from our larger community. All of them have been background checked, and our drivers are trained to meet our members’ needs. Our volunteers set their own schedules; they decide when they want to volunteer and what they’d like to do.
We also provide a list of pre-screened and background-checked outside vendors to provide services—from remodeling to yard maintenance and housekeeping—that are beyond our volunteers’ capabilities.
Quince, one of our longtime volunteers, describes why she does it:
“Because I travel, I need flexibility in my volunteer work, and Eastside Village makes that possible. I also get a meaningful window into many people’s lives and feel well supported as a volunteer.”
Here are just some of the direct services volunteers provide to our members:
- Rides to medical appointments, stores, social events, and the airport
- Friendly home visits and telephone calls
- Household support, from occasional cleaning to light repairs
- Personal organization, including sorting mail, decluttering, managing calendars, and making important phone calls
- Technology support for computers, phones, and home electronics
- Yard and garden care, from raking leaves to watering, pruning, and collecting yard debris
- Short-term pet care, such as feeding, walking, and changing litter boxes
- Minor maintenance, from clearing walkways to changing light bulbs, fixing dripping faucets, and taking the trash bin to the curb
- Running errands, such as picking up prescriptions and helping with grocery shopping.
Volunteers also contribute by:
- Creating, leading, and assisting with Village activities and events
- Serving on our Governing Council and committees
- Helping in the office.
