Activities and Events

Our members create and are active in our social, educational, and cultural programs—like learning conversational French, bicycling, hiking, playing mahjong, preparing for emergencies, addressing climate change, and exploring world cultures.

We also create exciting events, including readings of member authors’ books, garden tours, accessible “easy outings” for members with some physical limitations, potlucks, tours of museums, and fundraisers to benefit others in the Portland area.

And we’re always coming up with more! Every one of our activities and events was sparked by a member’s curiosity and passion. We provide the support to make it happen.

Anne-Marie and Lucien made social connections with other members:

“My husband and I moved to Portland from Connecticut 7 years ago. While we looked forward to new adventures in life, we did worry about how we would connect to people and make new friends.

“Along came Eastside Village and the problem was solved! We attended an information session, signed up, and went to a few events. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. We immediately had a social circle and became happily engaged with our community.

“To this day, we both enjoy connecting with members at our drop-in coffees and luncheon and sign up for many other events on the calendar. If you belong to the Village, there’s always a place to go to see people and stay connected. Meeting new people keeps our lives interesting. It’s also given us the opportunity to help others and keep meaning in our lives.”
